Alameda County has home repair grants to improve the health and safety of your home.
Homeowner Minor Home Repair Grants
The Alameda County Healthy Homes Department Homeowner Minor Home Repair Program serves the cities of Albany, Dublin, Emeryville, Oakland, Newark, Union City, and the unincorporated areas of Ashland, Cherryland, Castro Valley, Hayward Acres, Hillcrest Knolls, Fairview, San Lorenzo, and Sunol.
To Be Eligible for Homeowner Minor Home Repair You Must:
- Have a household income at or below the HUD income limits (see chart below)
- Own your own home or mobile home in one of our services areas or
- Oakland homeowners must be 62 or older and/or have a disability to participate in the minor home repair program.
Program Updates:
- Oakland: Due to high demand, there is a waiting list for service for homes in Oakland
- Union City: Pending new funding, please call to be placed on an interest list for homes in Union City

This grant can be used to make minor plumbing, carpentry, electrical repairs and can be used for railings, grab bars, toilets, water heaters, doors, locks and more.
In Oakland the homeowner must be 62 years or older and/or have a disability to apply for minor home repair services.
Minor Home Repair services are available only once in a two year period except in Union City where services are available only once in a three year period and are subject to a lifetime cap.

Lead Hazard Repair Grants
Lead Hazard Repair grants are available for owners of pre-1960 rental and owner-occupied residential properties throughout Alameda County. Income, occupancy and other eligibility requirements apply. Pre-1960 housing units are a priority. Service includes free lead testing, up to $12,000 per unit for lead hazard repairs, and project assistance to help make your home or property lead-safe.

Alameda Fire Department Housing Safety Program
A FREE program providing much needed services to low-to-moderate income residents over the age of 62 and persons with disabilities any age. The Program installs 10-year tamper resistant smokeand carbon monoxide detectors as well as ADA grab bars and interior handrails. Free nightlights, flashlights and grab sticks are offered as well.

City of Berkeley Senior and Disabled Home Rehabilitation Loan Program
The purpose of the Seniors and Disabled Home Rehabilitation Loan Program is to assist low income senior and disabled homeowners in repairing/modifying their homes, to eliminate conditions thatpose a threat to their health and safety and to help preserve the City's housing inventory.
NOTE: The Senior and Disabled Home Rehabilitation Loan Program is currently full and is no longer accepting applications. Berkeley: Center for Independent Living Residential Access Program
By building or installing various home modifications, The CIL helps residents live more safely and independently in their homes. This program is free for low to moderate income Berkeleyresidents who have a verified disability, whether homeowner or renter.
